The Roots of The Journey

Welcome Aboard

The Journey Begins,
The Story Continues...

Greetings, family! Welcome to The Journey; full of roots, culture, and truth, shaped by the places and the people who’ve inspired me. This isn’t just about music; it’s about a mission, a vibration, and a movement.

Where it all began

My Mother, a language buff, clearly followed the model of language learning ‘Total Immersion’, as she submerged me in Reggae; in the womb, home, and especially the car. One of my earliest memories was when I was strapped in my car seat whilst reggae was pumped endlessly into my conscious and subconscious mind. One song stands out vividly, Ride Natty Ride (Bob Marley), as it was played over and over. That song was my childhood anthem with its lyrics being prophetic to so much of my life and musical journey.

As I grew up in London, I veered towards the popular music of the youth, UK music and Hip Hop. Like most youths, I was captivated by the rhythmic beat but less than impressed by the lyrical content. I began to produce hip-hop and other genres with lyrics that had more uplifting and positive messages. My mission and my purpose was starting to unfold. It was also the signpost that later on led me to forge my own unique style, by blending and fusing the influences of many genres with the use of deep heavy baselines, applying the Roots Reggae touch with a Dub and a Hip-Hop feel. I give thanks that Reggae was the soundtrack to my upbringing, as it definitely helped to set a strong foundation for my future; spiritually and musically. Here I am, all these years on, unashamedly and authentically me.

The Next Milestone

Growing up in the Rastafari faith, repatriation back to Africa was a must. In late 2008, the urgency to move was intense that I knew it to be a spiritual calling. Within a period of 3-4 months, my family and I had completely packed up and moved to Ethiopia – the Land of Origins. Ethiopia is mystical and I love it. There my passion and my purpose grew to the next level.  I founded Frontline 12 Records; my studio in Addis Ababa, where tunes like ‘Roar Like A Lion’, ‘Lyrical Niceness’ and ‘Light It Up’ were produced. It became a hub for collaboration and mentorship. I worked with legends like King Kong and Mykal Rose, and also guided many emerging Ethiopian reggae artists. To everyone that came through, I give thanks but there was one significant person that I shall always be indebted to and grateful for; Duke Ferron, a talented percussionist (known as Glasses Issachar in the Rastafari community). He selflessly mentored and encouraged me; professionally, personally and spiritually. Sadly, Glasses Issachar has passed on, but his legacy definitely lives on in my music.

Being a one-man operation has pushed me to grow in ways I never imagined. Beyond music production, I’ve taken on the role of designer, marketer, strategist and performing artist. From creating promo content to building my website, I’ve learned that being an independent artist means mastering every aspect of the business. This Journey is more than just about music; it’s about building a movement. It isn’t just a blog; it’s a space where we can connect, reflect, and grow together. It’s about uniting people through shared values of truth, love, and the transformative power of reggae. Every step I take, every beat I create, is for the tribe, the family, the community.

As we move forward, you’re a part of this story. The roots are deep, but the branches are
growing wide, and together, building something timeless. Stay connected, inspired, and let’s
keep the fire blazing.

The lion has roared, and the call has gone out. Will you answer?
